Best beach in Mauritius

The history buffs amongst aspiring property buyers wont to find Mont Choisy Le Parc quite fascinating. This estate, after all, banners an island heritage while moulding itself as modern and word-class.

Despite what its name initially suggests, this estate wasn’t named after a mountain. Its name is honorific of Captain Jules Armand de Mont Choisy, a young French officer. Exploring the island in 1747, he discovered the area now bearing his name as an ideal permanent outpost in north Mauritius.

An evolution from sweet beginnings

Sugar production subsequently galvanised this estate’s imprint on the island’s history. This pioneer of a venture came in 1820 with the foundation of Compagnie de Mont Choisy. It introduced the first sugarcane plantations on the island domain that the French captain had discovered as a settlement.

Then as now, the young captain’s reckoning held rather well. The estate thrived for some 200 years to eventually bring the prime real estate developments dominating its vast landscape today.

Golf in Mauritius

A golf course is the crown jewel of these real estate projects. Inaugurated in 2017, this 6,245-metre, par 72 golf course has already carved a prestigious standing. Its layout is a masterful rendition of the renowned South African course architect, Peter Matkovich. The course, in recent years, has hosted major regional tournaments.

Urban sophistication in the mix

The golf course was developed cheek-by-jowl with Mont Choisy Le Parc, a residential project. It carried much weight too in terms of the professional talents that implemented this development under the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS).

The no. 1 real estate developer in Mauritius, 2Futures, led the team that shaped Mont Choisy Le Parc. SAOTA, Gapp Architects, and The Designed Partnership contributed to the modern and sophisticated flair of the residences in this development.

Notwithstanding the urban sophistication injected to the estate, it has preserved some vivid reminders of its historic past. A short distance across the clubhouse of the golf layout, the estate celebrates its roots in a Heritage Zone.

This zone features a vintage colonial house proudly displaying a circa 1800s wrought iron “Portail de l’amitié” (Portal of Friendship). The estate’s farm supposedly received this as a gift from King Radama II of Madagascar. Other charming memorabilia in the Heritage Zone include an ancient chimney and lime kiln.

There is so much more to learn and appreciate about Mont Choisy Le Parc, especially for buyers of real estate. For instance, it is an IRS development with several neighbourhoods each with a distinct character.
