Couple on the beach in Mauritius

Looking at the island’s topography can easily tell you why many expatriates in Mauritius choose to live in the north. It quickly comes apparent viewing the map of Mauritius that bays and lagoons abound on its northern side.  These bodies of water are generally calmer than the surrounding sea and their beaches more family-friendly.

Mountainous terrain also dominates the southern portion of the island. This thus protects areas up north, especially the northwest locations, from the southeast trade winds prevailing throughout the year in Mauritius.

There are two districts in the north of Mauritius: Rivière du Rempart and Pamplemousses. Their towns and villages, especially those along the coast, exude a unique charm. Combined all together, these traits form an endearing vibe that expatriates in Mauritius can easily fall for. Here are but a few samplings of the jewels in the north of Mauritius.

Grand Baie

Many regard Grand Baie as “the capital of the North,” with its citified air largely arising from its mix of business and commercial centres. The main shopping hubs here include the coastal strip mall on Sunset Boulevard. Shoppers also troop to Grand Bay Coeur de Ville anchored on a Super U hypermarket. Grand Baie is also host to another popular mall, Le Croisette. Notably, this shopping centre is within walking distance southwards from 2Futures’ prime commercial property Grand Baie Business Quarter.

Pereybere

Located just 2 kilometres going east from Grand Baie, Pereybere is famous for its public beach.  This pristine coastal area serves as a backdrop to several new property developments including 2Futures’  Ki Resort, 2 Beach Residences, and 2Beach Club.  Dining for beachgoers revolves around choices on food trucks along the shoreline and enticing brick-and-mortar restaurants in the area. Nightlife in Pereybere also offers an exciting experience for expatriates.

Pointe aux Canonniers

Pointe aux Canonniers is an eclectic but quiet neighbourhood in the peninsula across west of the waters off Grand Baie. This neighbourhood hosts chic  hotel resorts and former colonial houses. It is also home to Clinique du Nord, one of several healthcare providers in the north of Mauritius. Another 2Futures commercial development, the Mont Choisy Business Quarters iQ is located in Pointe Aux Canonniers.

Mont Choisy

The right choice of a residence in Mont Choisy brings the advantage of walkability. For these walkable homes, Les Residences de Mont Choisy and Le Domaine de Grand Baie are sure winners. Located in one complex, these two enjoy proximity to a championship golf course and the beach. Mont Choisy Le Mall and Le Croisette commercial centre are within walking distance from the residential developments. Plans are set for more facilities in the Mont Choisy area, such as offices and commercial establishments sure to help draw more expatriates to Mauritius.
