The north coast of Mauritius has the greatest concentration of beaches. Most of these beaches adjoin beachfront properties including not only resort hotels but also residential developments.
For instance, the leading real estate developer in Mauritius, 2Futures, has a property at Merville Beach, AO Residence de Luxe. A short distance north on Pereybere Beach, it has also developed the amenity-rich 2Beach Club.
Because of their neighbouring property developments, the larger beaches, like Pereybere, Mont Choisy, and Grand Baie, attract heavier foot traffic. Fortunately, the northern coast of Mauritius likewise features some secluded coves and beach nooks. Here are some picks for those who seek privacy and solitude on the oceanfront.
This beach is on the northernmost edge of the island. Another 2Futures property development, Le Barachois, rises cheek-by-jowl with this beach distinctive for its coastal lagoon or barachois. On this placid setting, soft sand dominates higher up the shoreline. Walking closer on the water’s edge gets rougher underfoot, so wearing beach shoes is advisable for swimmers.
A rocky landscape dominates the coastline of Grand Gaube, but it presents sand strips on the beaches of its three coves. Its setting is as rustic and quiet as its neighbouring Calodyne. Grand Gaube likewise affords views of the islet Le Coin de Mire on the northern horizon. This panorama is quite spectacular from Ocean Grand Gaube, another window that 2Futures has developed.
Stretching crescent-shaped on the west flank of Calodyne, the Anse la Raie beach is easily accessible. It stretches just off the B13 Coastal Road and isn’t crowded. Wade its shallow near-shore waters, and it’d be pure sand underfoot; not rocky and no bothersome sea urchins either. Vendors common in the island’s larger beaches are absent too. The only company you’d likely encounter are kite surfers.
From Anse la Raie the next beach stop is the postcard-perfect Cap Malheureux. Its trademark is the charming church La Notre Dame Auxiliatrice remarkable for its architecture and red roof. Swimming is ideal in the clear waters of this quiet beach. Cap Malheureux is one of the starting points for island-hopping tours to the islets farther out north like Le Coin de Mire.
Along with other factors, the charms of beaches are woven with property values particularly in the northern side of the island. Contact a 2Futures consultant to learn more about the picks with the best yield potential.
