Moving to Mauritius is an ideal choice for foreigners either entering or well into their golden years. The Mauritian government in recent years has initiated programmes to promote the island amongst seniors.
The Mauritius Retired Non-Citizen Scheme is one of these programmes. Foreigners age 50 and above are eligible under this scheme. Originally, it grants just a three-year residence permit to qualified seniors. The government extended this permit has to 10 years following amendments required under its 2020-2021 budget.
Significantly, this budget focuses on economic pump-priming measures to counter the adverse effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. Under these new initiatives, foreign retirees with a Residence Permit can also invest in Mauritius without any shareholding restriction.
The government, in addition, revised some guidelines in its programmes enabling foreigners’ real estate purchases in Mauritius. One revision reduced the minimum investment for a foreigner to obtain Permanent Resident status.
This reduction covers investment in real estate development programmes like the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS). These schemes’ minimum investment amount, which is bundled with permanent residency, has been reduced from USD500,000 to USD375,000. Notably, the government’s new guidelines have likewise extended the Permanent Residence Permit from 10 to 20 years.
Foreign senior citizens investing the minimum USD375,000 no longer need to apply in the Mauritius Retired Non-citizen Scheme. These investors acquire permanent residency outright from their residential purchase in an IRS project.
Mont Choisy Le Parc is one IRS development best-suited to foreign nationals moving to Mauritius for their retirement. A project of 2Futures, this development offers self-contained, worry-free living.
Mont Choisy Le Parc delivers this relaxed lifestyle, as one of the first residential projects initiated in the sprawling Mont Choisy estate. Meticulous planning went into this estate which includes not only a golf course and other high-end leisure amenities. Also, it has lined up plenty of commercial amenities.
A well-appointed clubhouse with a restaurant complements the estate’s centrepiece golf links. The estate takes pride too in its Mont Choisy Le Mall, now one of the shopping landmarks in north Mauritius. The pristine Mont Choisy Beach just to the estate’s west is another magnet for seniors to enjoy living in Mont Choisy Le Parc.
Seniors moving to Mauritius are also bound to find some great social company. Roughly 22 % of the country’s population of 1.3 million population is at age 55 and older. There are also recreational centres catering to senior citizens on the island.
