Pereybere beach in Mauritius

If you buy a home at 2Beach Residences near Pereybere Beach in Mauritius you love the location. That’s obvious.

But what can you do there, really, if you want more than just the benefit of the salt air? Water sports and ocean-based activities are a big attraction for residents and tourists alike, and the north has a lot to offer.

Living at 2Beach Residences, so close to Pereybere Beach itself, means that you have access to all the gear you need close at hand. You can surf and paddleboard on kit rented from beach vendors, or go parasailing and water-skiing. What more could you ask for?

Offshore there are smaller islands such as Coin de Mire and Flat Island, which are popular destinations for catamaran cruises. You can cruise in style, and enjoy breakfast on board, for example, or climb off when you get there to swim and snorkel. The reef at Flat Island makes it a go-to for snorkellers so if you’re keen on fully exploring the area why not make a day of it?

It takes about 90 minutes to reach Flat Island by luxury catamaran from Grand Baie. The name explains the topography but there is one hill with a lighthouse on top, and a lovely 40-minute trail that leads up to it if you want a bit more exercise. Lunch may also be served on the catamaran. After that you can swim, soak up the sun and do some bird watching until it’s time to head back.

You can also book a speedboat cruise for a different experience in this part of the Indian Ocean. One option takes in the islands of Coin de Mire,  Amber Island and Bernache Island and another covers Gabriel Island, Flat Island and Coin de Mire. The Ocean’s Whisper team can also create personalised excursions from their departure point of Cap Malheureux. That’s where the Notre Dame Auxiliatrice Chapel is. It’s a Roman Catholic church, also known as the Red Church because of its roof of the same colour that everyone loves to photograph.

Ocean’s Whisper uses a Mauritius-made One Legend 28 OV CC, known to have good stability at sea. It can carry 14 passengers comfortably, has a canopy for shade, and steel railings to secure the front deck. Safety is a priority and the boat and team adhere to the highest safety standards.

The Ocean’s Whisper founder, Dario, was the second man to ever sail to Gabriel Island and has decades of experience on the water to his credit.

It’s good to know that the Ocean’s Whisper skippers avoid cruising in shallow waters inhabited by corals and only anchor the boat on the sandy bottom of the ocean. Even their fishing expeditions are led away from coral reefs to ensure that no fishing hooks or lines cause any damage. The best snorkelling sites have fixed mooring buoys, so water-sports lovers can make the most of the opportunity to admire the coral reefs without risk of damaging them.
