Organisers of big-time golf events at luxury real estate and golf developments in Mauritius are preparing to tee off. Asian Tour organisers announced recently that the Mauritius Open is being readied for the restart of the 2020 season, after the recent Covid-19 lockdown temporarily closed local courses.
AfrAsia Bank has been the title sponsor of the Mauritius Open since 2015. The PGA European Tour and the South African Sunshine Tour have also sanctioned the competition. As a result, this affirms Mauritius’s stellar ranking as a world-class golfing destination.
Heritage Golf Club and Anahita Golf Club alternately host the Mauritius Open. Heritage Golf Club in the south is noted for wide greens and fairways that seem to offer easy play if players can negotiate the water hazards. In the east, Anahita features six holes played along the Indian Ocean coastline. South African golf pro and course designer Ernie Els has ensured that the onshore winds add to the challenge.
What’s more, Mont Choisy Le Golf also hosts a major international tournament, the GEC Open. The venue is one of the newest in Mauritius, located in Grand Bay in the north. The GEC Open is an amateur golf tournament with 54 qualifying rounds in 34 countries.
Mont Choisy’s facilities are arguably the best in the country. The golf course was developed in tandem with market-leading luxury real estate by 2Futures.
The International Association of Golf Tour Operators named Mauritius as its golf destination of the year in 2018. This is only partly due to the country’s superb golf links. The resort hotels and villas that form part of the luxury real estate and golf lifestyle in Mauritius enhance their status.
