Moving to a new country can be a daunting challenge. More so, if you’re building a career, exercising a profession or engaging in commerce in your new environment.
Relocating and pursuing work or business opportunities in Mauritius, however, comes a bit easier. The country has several private organisations where you can build a local network to help grow your career or business. Here are four major groups which can help spread your calling card on the island.
The Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), founded in 1850, is the oldest non-profit representing the private sector in Mauritius. It serves as the main voice of the Mauritian business community, maintaining close links with the government to contribute to the country’s development. It also maintains international links with inter-governmental and private organisations to widen its scope activities and promote Mauritius worldwide. MCCI organises networking events for its members and informs them about international trade events, seminars, and forums. The chamber, which is based in Port Louis, also runs the MCCI Business School at Ebène.
The French Mauritius Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCIFM) is one of the major drivers for the activities of the Franco-Mauritian community. It holds various networking events to strengthen the links amongst its members. CCIFM activities include its prestigious annual gala evening held since 2006. The chamber’s members also bond in sports tournaments including those for golf, football, volleyball and petanque.
This organisation provides a platform to promote commercial relations between Mauritius and South Africa, one of the island’s most important trading partners. Established in 2013, the chamber has over 140 corporate and 62 individual members who can hold the key to business opportunities. Its members come not only from Mauritius but also South Africa. They represent a variety of industry sectors including Financial management services, property, travel, banking, retail, and professional Services.
The AMCHAM in Mauritius is comprised of private and public sector members seeking to advance trade and commercial links between the U.S. and Mauritius. This organisation not only provides regular networking events for its members. It also hosts seminars with resource persons coming from government and private sector experts from both markets.
