We’ve put together a list of the best places to eat in the Grand Baie area, as recommended by locals.
1. The recently opened 2Beach Club boasts a range of unparalleled benefits for 2Futures homeowners, their guests and day visitors who will be making this their go-to spot for socialising, sunbathing, sundowners and culinary treats all day long. With its ideal location and high-end facilities, 2Beach Club is described by a local guide as “Cosi and Ibiza. Relaxation guaranteed.”
2. The Beach House Bar & Restaurant is legendary, put on the map initially by former South African rugby player Cabous van der Westhuizen. He has since sold his interest in the venue, but it remains a wonderful place to meet friends to enjoy good food and the obligatory cocktail or Phoenix beer!
Beach House caters for a range of appetites and tastes, from vegetarian and authentic Mauritian dishes to finger food in baskets for the not-so-hungry and rump for the meat eaters. Seafood is always a great choice, and their burgers are popular. On a side note, Beach House supports PAWS (Protection of Animals Welfare Society Mauritius), which is another reason to go!
3. A little further along the coastal road towards Grand Baie village itself you’ll find Sauterelle at Sunset Boulevard and Le Poivrier. Both restaurants are great in terms of food and service, which is why they are recommended among the best places to eat in Grand Baie. Keep an eye on their Facebook pages for up-to-date opening times, and featured items such as Australian beef or catch of the day. Sauterelle advertises weekly lunch menus now too. You can’t miss it. You’ll spot this one first, on the corner, at the start of Sunset Boulevard which is easily identifiable for its particular design and upmarket boutiques.
Getting to this particular spot in the north is like travelling from inland Johannesburg to coastal Durban in South Africa – it’s that first sighting of the sea from the motorway that lets you know you’ve arrived! Le Poivrier is next to the new LUX* Grand Baie Resort & Residences.
4. If you are passing by LUX* Grand Baie Resort & Residences, you should try its main restaurant! Beach Rouge is a dynamic spot, blending beach club vibes with a restaurant experience. From creative breakfasts to lazy lunches, and electrifying evenings with Aperitivo, beachside dinners, and DJ sets, it offers a taste of Ibiza or Mykonos.
5. If it’s Friday, you might be programmed for Happy Hour at Eden Beach. Sundowner celebrations aren’t reserved only for Fridays though so keep a lookout for the specials here too. This venue has great food and the perfect setting a stone’s throw from the ocean. “Fine dining on the ocean side,” says one reviewer.
6. Bloom transcends the typical restaurant experience—it’s a haven for personal betterment and creativity. Discover a place where authenticity thrives, positivity flourishes, and a healthier lifestyle is encouraged. Experience the exhilarating fragrance of freshly roasted coffee beans combined with delicious cuisine for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, all within a serene green environment.
7. There’s something about getting kudos from your peers, especially in the highly competitive culinary world, which makes all the difference. So when an experienced local baker and caterer gives a massive thumbs up for Grill & Chill for the best places to eat in the Grand Baie area, saying the food there is amazing, it’s one you want to go and check out yourself.
Their claim to fame is to offer the best BBQ in Pereybere, with reviews to support it. The lamb chops, for example, are marinated for 24 hours and then grilled slowly on the BBQ. Grill & Chill’s shrimp tempura comes a close second for those who don’t eat meat. Grill & Chill is open every day except Sunday.
8. The place to be for a very special treat is INTI at LUX* Grand Gaube Resort & Villas. INTI means the God of Sun. Despite the holiday feel of the resort, dining at INTI is a dress-up occasion so don’t expect to be seated if you turn up wearing shorts and slip-slops.
This Peruvian-Argentinian restaurant is a first for the Indian Ocean and the island of Mauritius. It delivers a fiery combination of Latin American passion and sophisticated Nikkei flair, communicated not only through the décor but the tasty morsels plated in the grill kitchen and served with panache.
The bright and colourful environment is reflected in the cuisine, which conveys the essence of Peru, Argentina, Japan, Equador and Mexico. If you still have room for a final course, the Pastry Bar serves outlandishly sweet and savoury churros. Reserve the communal table for your party if you want to enjoy a pastry tasting or private dining experience. The DJ-soundtracked Ceviche and Pisco Bar is the ideal spot for an aperitivo or nightcap.
