Recent industry reports indicate South African demand is surging for second homes overseas. And amongst the home-buying choices, count as one of the South Africans’ leading picks.
Significantly, new data from an independent global financial advisory firm showed South Africans ranking amongst top nationalities seeking a second residency abroad. This report was based on enquiries received by the residency and citizen service of the financial advisory firm deVere. It noted in a December 2020 report that such enquiries have skyrocketed by more than 50 per cent year-over-year.
Besides South Africa, the enquiries deVere received came from the U.S., India, the Middle East, and East Asia. These searches for second residency options focussed on Europe and Commonwealth countries like Mauritius.
Nigel Green, deVere founder and CEO, said the Covid-19 pandemic has served as a major catalyst for the demand on a second residency. Second homes abroad are now no longer just a luxury item or a status symbol, particularly for the wealthy, said DeVere’s Green. These homes are becoming a “must-have” for them too, he added.
There are many other associated benefits in second residency status, especially for foreigners living in Mauritius. Properties also offer foreigners the benefits of the country’s political and economic stability, liberal tax regime, and wider business and career opportunities, world-class schools and optimal healthcare
Foreigners acquiring residency status in Mauritius via a real estate purchase will likewise enjoy living in a multicultural setting. Aside from the country’s diverse racial mix, the island also has a sizable expat community including European and African nationals.
Even more encouraging for foreign buyers seeking Mauritius residency, the purchase price threshold to gain this status has been reduced. They can now get a residence permit with the purchase of a home priced from USD375,000. This is a significant reduction from the USD500,000 price threshold in effect previously.
From the new price threshold, there are plenty of luxurious choices in the property portfolio of 2Futures. Check out Ki Resort for hot listings at USD375,000.
