Tamarin beach Mauritius

Tamarin is a charming village on the southwestern coast of Mauritius that is widely regarded as one of the primers to the island nation’s economic growth. This is so because Tamarin is the site of the first Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) launched in 2002 to provide incentives for foreigners to lock on property investment. To date, this village remains as one of the most desirable residential areas for those investing, as well as relocating, in Mauritius.

Tamarin provides a picturesque setting for real estate developments. The topography of this village features a namesake river and bay, and the scenic Black River mountain range flank its inland acreage to the east.

Its public beach is another great attraction in Tamarin, particularly for surfers. The Tamarin Public Beach is also a popular jump-off point for dolphin-watching boat tours and fishing trips.

Salt Pan of Mauritius

Local livelihood in Tamarin, a former fishermen’s village, retains its strong link with the sea.  Salt-making, which dates back to the French period in Mauritius, still goes on an area of some 30 hectares in Tamarin. These constitute the main salt field in the island-nation.

Tamarin was the former seat of the council district of Black River (Rivière Noire), one of Mauritius’s 10 districts. The government’s drive to boost investment resonated well in Tamarin. Developments completed in the village in recent years include a new commercial center with leisure facilities. A new French program primary school was also built in Tamarin.

The major developers of Mauritius have a presence in Tamarin. One of these players is 2Futures, the leader in luxury real estate development in the country. This company already has over 10 years of experience and 18 real estate projects to its credit.

Flexible Investment Scheme

In Tamarin, 2Futures is developing the beachfront community of Manta Cove under the Mauritian government’s Real Estate Scheme (RES). Launched in 2007, RES provides a more flexible alternative to the Integrated Resort Scheme (IRS) that was first implemented in Tamarin.

RES properties are on smaller land parcels and thus their starting prices are relatively lower. There is no minimum amount for foreigners to invest in an RES property. But just like in an IRS property purchase, buying an RES property priced over $500,000 entitles a foreign buyer to a permanent residency permit in Mauritius.

Living in Manta Cove captures not only the rustic charm of Tamarin.  From this village, a short trip to the southwestern tip of the island leads to Le Borne Brabant, a UNESCO heritage site and iconic of the freedom-loving spirit of the Mauritians. Northward from Tamarin, urban amenities are conveniently accessible at the capital city of Port Louis further firing up foreigners’ plans for Mauritius.
